Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Unroll one pie crust into a 9-inch pie plate. Press firmly against the bottom and sides.
  3. In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Toss to coat.
  4. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust.
  5. Dot the top of the apples with butter pieces.
  6. Drizzle the caramel ice cream topping over the apples.
  7. Unroll the second pie crust and place it over the filling. Trim and crimp the edges.
  8. Cut several slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  9. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 15 minutes.
  10. Reduce oven temperature to 375°F (190°C) and bake for an additional 35-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  11. If the crust begins to brown too quickly, cover the edges with aluminum foil.
  12. Let the pie cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours before serving.

Tips & Notes

For a beautiful golden crust, you can brush the top crust with an egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon of water) before baking. If you don't have caramel ice cream topping, you can make your own by melting caramel candies with a little bit of cream.
